NexusLIMS

Automated experiment metadata capture for electron microscopy laboratories

Open source · Peer-reviewed · Actively developed by DataSophos

What is NexusLIMS?

NexusLIMS is a peer-reviewed Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) purpose-built for shared-access electron microscopy facilities. It automatically harvests session metadata directly from lab instruments and instrument scheduling tools, building records of each experimental session. It enables your facility to easily generate FAIR data with no tedious manual data entry required by researchers.

Records are stored in an open format and can be exported to a number of destinations. The primary destination for users is a searchable web interface, making it easy for users to find, annotate, cite, and share their experiment records long after a session ends.

NexusLIMS was originally developed by Josh Taillon (the founder of datasophos ) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and has been used at NIST and universities across the country since 2020. In 2025, datasophos created the next generation of NexusLIMS and continues to maintain and extend the system. Its peer-reviewed foundations give it a solid scientific pedigree; our ongoing work makes it simple to deploy and production-ready.
